Kuching Prison smaller but Costlier

The Federal Government under the ruling Barisan National had paid RM56million more for a smaller prison complex in Kuching Malaysia.

The original plan was for the complex to house 2665 inmates and staff. The completed project can only accommodate 1366, about half of the tender document. The excuse given was, the prison department does not have the qualified personnel to review the claims. The excuse sound odd and a bit childish because:

a. It does not an expert to tell if the complex is half of the planned size.

b. No personnel cannot be a reason as the prison department would have hired consultant to take care of the interest of the government. Moreover the PWD public work department can always be called to assist.

The Developer WMM Holdings was reported to have made the claim of 83% completed.
